A Safety Center & the AOT Pilot Program: Good Pairing for Knoxville!

Our pilot AOT program would provide the continuum of care required for folks coming out of the Safety Center, and help ensure their compliance upon return to the community. 

These two important interventions -- the Safety Center and the AOT pilot program -- should ideally go hand in hand to permanently close the revolving door of untreated illness and incarcerations.
As much as 25 percent of inmates in Knox County jails are considered severely or persistently mentally ill. Fewer than 80 people account for 25 percent of the 4,000 arrests in Knox County for public intoxication, bid documents said, indicating a high rate of incarceration for a certain population. Some of those arrests could be better handled by treatment, safety center advocates say.
